Lets Go To The X!!!

What a fun day we had! Started out with the Cat Show, some absolutely gorgeous cats. To bad there was not better light where they had the show. I did bring a flash but chose not to use it. Than it was off to the food building for foods of all nations, hey this is the one day you get to have whatever you want, and not worry about it, I chose Macaroni and Cheese with Hamburger, it was quite yummy, but I have to say that the Pasta was a bit soggy and overcooked. Tiny Tom’s donuts did not disappoint though, and I always enjoy those with just the powdered sugar. I stayed away from the Deep Fried Butter though, and I’m still trying to figure out exactly what that is, people were however talking about the Chocolate Covered Bacon, maybe next time.

The Midway was packed with people and the sky’s were pure blue. Can make for some interestingly contrasty photos. I will be heading back down 1 night this week to do some shots at dusk, if anyone would like to join in on the fun.

Lightroom 3 Class Toronto

I have been getting many requests from friends and colleagues, to teach them what I know about Adobe Photoshop Lightroom. Since I’ve been an avid user since the beginning, I’ve finally agreed to teach a class, in Downtown Toronto, at a friends Photo Studio.

The class is going to cover all of the modules in Lightroom 3 with a heavy emphasis on the import dialog, Library , and Develop modules. The class is probably going to take place over a 5 week period sometime in early 2011, probably in Feb, in the evenings, and classes will range from 2-3 hours per session. As a bonus at the first class we’re all going to bring our cameras and shoot a portrait, tethered to a laptop computer, this way everyone will have the same images to work from, and play with.

As of this moment I have not figured out the cost, or how many I’m going to limit the class size to, I expect somewhere between 15-20 People, I would like to keep the class small and intimate. If you’re interested in getting more information, please write in the comments section below, so that I have your e-mail on file, and when I have further details, I will send out e-mail notification to all of those that are interested in participating. For those of you that I had promised I would be doing this early this Fall, I apologize, I just don’t have the time right now to invest in putting the class together.

Estelita and Ryan, I want to congratulate you and your families, for such a beautiful wedding yesterday. You both have such warm and loving families, and it is so interesting that you’re both from other countries, and now living in Canada. It was a gorgeous day at the Cardinal Golf Club, and what a beautiful setting to have your wedding photography done. The below video is an homage to my beloved father (Norman Goldberg) who passed away on July 10th, from a long battle with Colon Cancer.
I urge anyone, that is reading this, to please make it a point to get your Colonoscopy Exam done, when you’re in your 50′s, and if Cancer is in your family to please get it done when you’re in your 40′s. I’ve recently had my exam done, and it was a painless experience.
We also taped part of the service for my Dad, that we had for him at the “Gerstenberg Center” in West Palm Beach, which is part of Hospice of Palm Beach County. Everyone that cared for my Dad here was amazing and I encourage donations in my Dads name “Norman Goldberg” rather then sending any cards, flowers or gifts.

I thank you all for looking and encourage your comments, and any stories that you’d like to share about my Dad below.

Bluffers Park-Toronto Photographer

I was up early this morning on a little walkabout to Bluffers Park. It was slightly raining, but I had my faithful companions, my iPod, 1Ds MKIII, and of course when your up that early, you need Starbucks. All was good for a nice little walk. I only regret that I did not wear my hiking boots. That was a mistake, there were a few shots I could not get, because I did not want to ruin my new sneaks. Oh well, we’ll have to go back and “Trek” again.

All images were processed using Lightroom 3, and I have to say that it is way faster than the old version, I’m really loving this upgrade.

The following 3 images were shot using my faithful B&W 1000X nd filter, ranging from 1-2 min exposures, around F-8, ISO 100. This morning the sky was not as cooperative as I would have liked for this particular filter, but it still does a great job, of smoothing the water out.

Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 3 is finally here!!!

John Street Roundhouse-Toronto Doors Open

We took a little ride over to the John Street Roundhouse today, in downtown Toronto. If you’re into trains this is heaven. This was there grand opening weekend, for Doors Open Toronto. If you’ve never been then you need to check out this free event next year. The roundhouse will be open weekends, throughout the summer, and is located right next to the Steamwhistle Brewery. A few nice snaps from today, and what a beautiful day it was.

iPhone can Geotag all of your photos with Aperture 3

I’m currently down in Delray Beach Florida, visiting with family, and I had a bit of time this morning to play around with Aperture 3 (sorry PC users, this is for Mac fans only, download free trial here) which I’ve been meaning to do for a while now. Yesterday morning I went for a little nature walk at sunrise, at the Green Caye Nature Preserve in Boynton Beach Florida.
We’ll for all of you iPhone users out there, I found a really cool feature, that Aperture has, that Lightroom doesn’t. If you follow my blog posts, you know I’m a huge fan of a Adobe Photoshop Lightroom, but the new version of Aperture, really has some amazing new features. In any event, I decided to edit my shoot from yesterdays walkabout in Aperture. While I was in Green Caye, I had popped out my iPhone, when I first got there, and took one shot of the sunrise, when I walked in there. Did you know that whenever you take a photo with your iPhone, that the photo is instantly geotagged, with satellite information, based on your GPS coordinates. It does not matter what cellphone provider you use, or even if you have an internet connection.
You can select your photos in Aperture, and than you can choose a corresponding image on your iPhone, based on the location you shot the images, and tag all of the images with the satellite information. I’ve included 2 images below as an example. The first one is the screen grab of the Satellite info, that Aperture 3 gives you, and the 2nd one is just one of the images of a black bird that I photographed while in Green Caye.
I think this is a pretty cool new feature of Aperture 3, that I may find many uses for when shooting stock photography, and eliminates the need for carrying around a geotagging device for your photos. Hmm am I ready to switch to Aperture yet? Well I’m not sure, but stay tuned, as I continue to use it, and find out what other strong features it has.

Listen up everyone, and mainly I’m talking to my photographer friends, but this is advice for anyone that would like to read an amazing book on how to improve your knowledge of personal branding. These days personal branding means Twitter and Facebook. Listen I’ve been using FB for years, and have always found it to be lots of fun. I’ve been a bit confused by Twitter, and not really sure what I’m supposed to do with it, but I’ve got to say after reading Gary Vaynerchuks book, I’ve got a pretty good handle on things now. Your going to see allot more posts on my blog that are related to different topics, and possibly even more reviews from everything on the likes of Leica S-2′s to movies like Avatar. I’m learning how to Crush It, and you should to. Pick up this amazing book, you will not be sorry that you did.

I just saw Avatar last week for the first time, and I loved it. So I just ordered it from Amazon on Blue Ray Disc, can’t wait to see it again.
