My wife and I are always running over to Staples to make photo copies, and every once in a while we need to send a fax, so I chose this model over the 710 mainly because it has the 30 page ADM (auto document feeder). The other main reason I wanted this, is because I’m constantly sending orders to my lab to print borderless 4X6 , and 5×7 prints. I’ve always preferred the luster finish Kodak prints. The closest paper that I could find, that was similar to this was the Ilford Galerie Smooth Pearl, available in all of the popular sizes.
Anyway I downloaded Ilfords paper profile for the R300, which uses the same inkset as the 810, but it sucked. So a little experimentation, and I came up with these profile settings, and got an exact match using Adobe Photoshop Lightroom.
Use the 810 Profile for Epson Photo Paper Glossy, use the rendering intent of perceptual, and make sure to turn color management off. I also set the expansion for borderless printing to minimum, and had no white border with this mode. Select the Semigloss paper as your option, when you get to your print dialog box, and voila, a perfect print, that is color accurate, if your monitor is calibrated.
For those of you that are lost when using profiles, I’m including screen shots from my Mac below, sorry for you PC users out there, but the settings should be similar on Windows.
Also did I say how fast this prints. I would rate this as a 5 star product, and the build quality is excellent, from what I’ve read the Claria ink set will last about 90 years, if framed under glass or stored in a photo album.
And just as a little plug, I believe my friends at Vistek have a great deal on this right now.
